Dawn of the New Everything: An Evening Lecture by Jaron Lanier

Many are waking up to the ways in which the internet and social networking influence our actions and have created “behavior modification empires.” How did we get here and is there any hope of a redesign that will save us from our addictive selves? If this future vision includes the individual sovereignty of data, what are the implications for machine learning and big data algorithms?

Keynote: Dispelling the Myths of Crypto “Currencies” (Olaf Carlson-Wee)

While the media focuses on Bitcoin and it’s value as a digital store of value or censorship resistant global currency, many are building and investing in the future of the internet…not currencies.  Olaf will discuss investing in internet protocols and how they will capture a majority of the value in a future built on decentralized, blockchain technology.

Panel: Plumbing Installation for a New Asset Class

There is still a fair amount of infrastructure that needs to be developed before meaningful institutional capital is allocated to this space. In addition, we have seen a dramatic growth in hedge funds trading crypto which will necessitate it’s own unique tool kit. Industry pioneers who have begun to build this infrastructure will discuss where we are in the development cycle and what some of the unique challenges are relative to existing asset classes. The discussion will focus on the security, custody, risk hedging and trading solutions that will support the cryptoasset ecosystem.

Panel: Investment and Operational Due Diligence Hurdles in Cryptoassets

As institutional capital looks to enter the cryptoasset space, there is a unique set of investment and operational dude diligence work that needs to be completed. An asset class that delivers venture capital like returns with public market liquidity may require a new mental model for thinking about where these assets fit into an institutional portfolio. This panel will highlight various perspectives from investors who have been through this process and can share their insight into the hurdles that need to be overcome.
